Catarman Camiguin

By    Dec 11, 2010

Catarman is the second largest municipality in Camiguin. Barangay Bonbon, Catarman is the site of Camiguin's first Spanish settlement, established in 1679. It was named Katadman or Katagman.

The settlement prospered and grew to become the commercial hub of Camiguin. However, the eruption of Mt. Vulcan in 1871 destroyed the town and displaced its residents. This same eruption created Catarman's tourist atrractions like the Sunken Cemetery and the Old Church ruins.

The sunset in Bonbon, Camiguin is one of Camiguin's finest; dip in the cool waters of Sto. NiƱo cold spring and enjoy the scenic rural areas of Camiguin's untouch lands. Mount Vulcan has been transformed into Holy Week's holy ground, the Walkway via Crucis. Walk the path of fourteen stations leading around the mountain and enjoy the best view of the calm waters of Bohol Sea.
