Christmas in Camiguin
It's that season of the year again when cool breeze sweeps through the island. Occasional raindrops, caroling, smiling faces and college students coming home. It's the Christmas Season in Camiguin Island.
Camiguin follows a very Fiilipino celebration of the Yuletide season. As an island of more than 90% Catholics, Camiguinons wake up to the call of "Simbang Gabi" at around 4 in the morning.
Simbang Gabi starts every 16th of December and runs for nine days. It's a festive dawn in the Island during these nine days. With prayer starting the day, the Chrismas spirit is kept alive.
One interesting thing in Christmas eve is that most Camiguinons spend the eve at Church. Christmas mass starts at around 10:00 PM of the 24th and ends around 12 midnight. Just in time for the celebration, Noche Buena. Food is comprised of rice, hamonada, pancit or Filipino-style spaghetti, cake, litson manok and hot chocolate. Friends and families gather to eat together.
What a glorious day Christmas is. Merry Christmas
